The Human Odyssey

The Human Odyssey: an attempt to trace and capture human existential pillars, the building stones of our collective story.

What does it mean to be a human in the 21st century? This exploration process led Club Guy & Roni to collaborate with dance and theatre companies from all over the world, bringing our ensemble to meet theirs, in order to enrich the discussion with other cultures and points of view and foremost because of the exciting artistic exchange and dialogue.

Swan Lake (Crisis)

In the NITE Hotel 01/31 JAN 2021 – in the theaters 2020 – By Club Guy & Roni + Slagwerk Den Haag + Tomoko Mukaiyama Foundation

The term black swan in economics describes an unpredictable phenomenon able to disrupt the entire system, it is upon each and every one of us to decide how to react to the black swans of our times. Swan Lake is a contemporary remake of the beloved Russian ballet, a site-specific performance in the theatres about our desire to escape into a perfect fairy-tale world. The pandemic forced theatres to reduce their capacity, but it also taught us new ways to share the magic of performing arts. The NITE hotel reopens its virtual doors to host the digital version of the performance, Swan Lake: The Game.

Swan Lake toured around big hall theatres, including International Theatre Amsterdam, Theatre Rotterdam and the Royal Theatre in The Hague, and online on festivals like Istanbul Theatre Festival in Turkey (ISKV) and Tanz Karlsruhe in Germany.

By changing the space, the lights and the music every 3 minutes and 33 second, we are investigating the shifting of borders between peoples and ideas. Where does my freedom become your border? Feedom is a collaboration between Club Guy & Roni and Tanz Mainz (Germany).

Phobia

2015 – By Club Guy & Roni, En-Knap + Slagwerk Den Haag

A performance about what happens when you try to keep an open mind despite your fear of the unknown. When you accept the unpredictability of the other and realise that if you don’t want to suffer you should avoid to inflict pain on others and meet each other as equals, as people. Phobia uses a text by the French writer and philosopher Albert Camus as inspiration. The show is created and performed by a cast of dancers from Club Guy & Roni and the Slovenian dance company En-Knap, and actors and musicians of Slagwerk Den Haag.

Future Collaborations

Fortune

In 2021 we will collaborate with Navdhara Indian Dance Theatre and Slagwerk Den Haag for Fortune. Is the happiness in our life entirely due to our own successes or is it just happiness? By working cross-culturally and interdisciplinary, the artistic conversation about happiness is conducted from different perspectives.

Preparations for future collaborations include Origin with Australasian Dance Collective, Youth with a group of older performers in the Eastern Asian region and Faith with an interdisciplinary group of Moroccan artists.
